Today I was in abstract mood. Abstract art uses shapes, forms, colour and lines to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world (not my words, this is what it says on the internet so it must be true....)
I don't tend to worry about definitions of what is and what isn't considered to be abstract and do my own thing.
Eva
This is an iPad double. By that I mean I've shot an inverted image of a model on an iPad. (The image is my own!) Without ending the exposure, I switched lenses and tripods pre-aimed at a tree. I then removed the lens and exposed for the branches with a couple of RGB LED lights. The black, unexposed spaces in the iPad image become exposed to the light from the tree and this is the result. Not a bad result considering this was out in my local cold woods and it was starting to rain!!
Live Long and Prosper
This is the same technique as the above image but I shot my own hand in silhouette. It was quite tricky lining my hand up, holding a remote and replacing the lens cap, all at the same time. I need another pair of hands! This was shot indoors on a rainy night in my kitchen and took many many attempts. I've been slightly annoyed that this image didn't do very well on regular social media despite the work that went in to this!
Handroid
I think I must have gone through a phase believing I was a hand model! This was made using three tripods and three lenses. It was somewhat difficult to achieve and took many attempts to line my damn hand with the circuit board and the Ikea Gamsebo bulb with a kinetic pan of the camera!
Reach out before you pass out
This was the same technique again as the first image except here I've used a monochrome image of a model I shot displayed on an iPad.
The Also Ran
This was actually a test shot for an image myself and @fadetoblack worked on. I considered it a fail but looking at it again back on my PC, I decided I liked it....
The Chee Tor Getaway
Using the same principles as the above images but in this case, @fadetoblack very kindly posed stood in front of a multi-colour gelled strobe point at the wall behind him. For the second part of the image, I shot a backlit circuit board to fill the black, unexposed silhouette of Tim.
One thing I didn't say about the above images is that they were all shot in one photographic exposure. These are not Photoshop creations; it would be quite easy to achieve these images digitally but where would the challenge and the fun be in doing that!
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
