Phalera bucephala (Linnaeus, 1758)
Der Mondvogel ist ein Nachtfalter aus der Familie der Zahnspinner (Notodontidae). Er ist ausschließlich nachtaktiv und fliegt von Mai bis Ende Juni in einer Generation. Tagsüber ruht der Falter in der Vegetation. Sein optisches Erscheinungsbild, ist mit dem massiven Körperbau einem abgebrochenen Ästchen ähnlich. Das Weibchen ist deutlich größer als das Männchen und legt seine Eier an unterschiedliche Laubbäumen auf die Blattunterseite. Die Raupe ernährt sich von den Blättern. Zur Verpuppung gräbt sich die Raupe ins Erdreich. Dort überwintert sie, um im Frühjahr zu schlüpfen.
The Buff-tip is a moth from the family Notodontidae. It is exclusively nocturnal and flies from May to the end of June in one generation. During the day the moth rests in the vegetation. Its optical appearance, with its massive body, is similar to a broken branch. The female is considerably larger than the male and lays her eggs on the underside of the leaves on different deciduous trees. The caterpillar feeds on the leaves. For pupation the caterpillar digs itself into the ground. There it hibernates to hatch in spring.
Gestern war das Wetter optimal um gute Makros in der Natur zu fotografieren. Es war bedeckt und fast windstill. So bin ich ganz ohne direktes Ziel durch die heimische Natur spaziert, um Pflanzen und Insekten zu fotografieren. Mit den beiden Faltern hatte ich wirklich Glück. Da die beiden tagsüber nicht fliegen, konnte ich in aller Ruhe mein Stativ aufbauen und fotografieren.
Yesterday the weather was perfect for taking good macro photos in the nature. It was overcast and almost windless. So I walked through the native nature without any direct destination to take pictures of plants and insects. I was really lucky with the two moths. Since they don't fly during the day, I was able to set up my tripod in peace and take pictures.
Bisher hatte ich erst einmal eine Kopula in der freien Natur beobachtet. Sehr gut kann ich mich an diese Begegnung erinnern. Aber das will ich euch in diesem Beitrag nicht noch einmal erzählen. In einem früheren Beitrag habe ich diese Geschichte schon einmal erzählt.

Eigentlich wollte ich heute früh noch einmal in die nahen Ehrlichsgärten von Kreuzwertheim, um dort die Flora & Fauna zu erkunden. Der plötzlich einsetzende Regen machte mir einen Strich durch die Rechnung. Aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben. Der Tag ist noch jung und ich hoffe auf regenfreies Wetter am Nachmittag.
Actually I wanted to go to the nearby Ehrlichsgärten of Kreuzwertheim this morning to explore the flora & fauna. The suddenly starting rain put a damper on my plans. Postponed is not cancelled. The day is still young and I hope for rain-free weather in the afternoon.
