Drymonia ruficornis (Hufnagel, 1766)
Der dunkelgraue Zahnspinner ist ein Nachtfalter aus der Familie der Zahnspinner (Notodontidae). Der Falter fliegt in den Monaten April und Mai in einer Generation. Beobachten kann man diesen Nachtfalter in Laubwäldern mit einem hohen Anteil an Eichen, von deren Blätter sich die Raupe ernährt. Die Verpuppung erfolgt in der am Boden. Dort kann die Puppe mehrere Jahre verbringen, bis der Falter schlüpft. Mit dieser Strategie kann der Falter seinen Fortbestand auch in ungünstigen Jahren sicher stellen. Der dunkelgraue Zahnspinner ist noch häufig zu finden und in seinem Bestand derzeit nicht gefährdet.
The dark grey tooth moth is a moth from the tooth moth family (Notodontidae). The moth flies in April and May in one generation. This moth can be observed in deciduous forests with a high proportion of oak trees, on whose leaves the caterpillar feeds. The pupation takes place in the one on the ground. There the pupa can spend several years until the butterfly hatches. With this strategy the butterfly can ensure its survival even in unfavourable years. The dark grey toothed moth is still frequently found and its population is not endangered at present.
