Spialia sertorius (Hoffmannsegg, 1804)
Der rote Würfel-Dickkopffalter, ist ein Tagfalter aus der Familie der Dickkopffalter (Hesperiidae). Er fliegt in Unterfranken in zwei Generationen von Mai bis August. Die zweite Generation ist deutlich schwächer als die erste Generation anzutreffen. Das Weibchen legt seine Eier ausschließlich an der Blüte vom kleinen Wiesenknopf (Sanguisorba minor) ab. Dort frisst die Raupe zuerst die Blüte und später auch die Blätter. Sie überwintert in einem Gespinst. Im Frühjahr verpuppt sie sich und der fertige Falter ist mit dem Erscheinen vom ersten Wiesenknopf wieder präsent. Dieser Schmetterling ist relativ selten und in seinem Bestand stark bedroht.
The Red-underwing skipper, is a butterfly of the family (Hesperiidae). It flies in Lower Franconia in two generations from May to August. The second generation is clearly weaker than the first generation. The female lays her eggs exclusively at the flower of the small burnet (Sanguisorba minor). There the caterpillar eats first the flower and later also the leaves. It hibernates in a web. In spring it pupates and the finished butterfly is present again with the appearance of the first meadow button. This butterfly is relatively rare and its population is severely threatened.
