Kleines Wiesenvögelchen ■ Small heath
Coenonympha pamphilus (Linnaeus, 1758)
The small heath is a butterfly from the family of Nymphalidae. The butterfly flies in Lower Franconia in three generations. It makes relatively little demands on its habitat and is still numerously represented on many meadows. The female lays her eggs on sweet grasses, from which the caterpillar feeds. The caterpillar hibernates on the ground and pupates in the following spring. The butterfly flies from February to November and its population is not endangered.
