In my opinion: Russia is a country rich in raw materials and territory, in the past France, Germany has already tried to invade Russia and as Russia now has nuclear weapons, there is no way to invade, so they will try to destabilize by dividing the Russian people .

In the end it's all about money, if the United States lets Russia do business with Europe, Russia will have political influence in Europe, so the United States will lose market and possibly in the future it will be isolated. So it is each country playing in favor of its own interests.
