Happy Saturday Hive, I hope life is good and you are staying safe.

Over the years I have used many light painting tools, from rgb led pool bulbs mounted in drain pipe, digital light wands, dome tools and various shapes and sizes of acrylic. The one which stands out for me is the simplest and probably the most random......The humble net curtain!

In the early days I was looking for a method of creating the effect of fire and had started out with a sheet of plastic pallet wrap. Whilst this was ok it wasn't quite right but I persevered with it. One evening after work I was having a shower and noticed how the setting sun was landing on the net curtain. Creating many layers of orange and I knew this would do the trick. A quick trip to see my mum and voila, a massive net curtain in the bag. Cheers mum :) I cut it to a 6ft x 4ft sheet and prepared my camera bag for an adventure.

To obtain the effect of fire I attach a universal connector by www.lightpaintingbrushes.com to my torch with an orange gel over the end. I then stand behind my subject, turn on the torch and wave the net curtain up and down whilst waving the torch around behind the model.

Over the years my best shooting buddy fastchrisuk@fastchrisuk has perfected the technique and is now the number 1 net curtain waver in the world.

Here are a few more examples using this tool.

I hope you enjoyed these shots and if you have any questions on the intricacies and camera settings then feel free to drop me a line.
