In the beginning - Lightpainting on Hive

Good evening Hiveworld and I hope life is great and you are ready for the weekend. I'm good thanks for asking, work is busy but a weekend away in Wales with the family is just what the doctor ordered. Happy days.

Here are a few I created the other night from the comfort of my kitchen. I haven't got the time or money at the moment to go to Chile to photograph deep sky objects, so I have to create my own using light painting.

@oddballgraphics was kind enough to share his video animations with me and used in conjunction with my lazy susan, a torch, orange gel and a ping pong ball I arrived at this set of images.

I use two tripods, two lenses and I capture it to the camera during a single long exposure in complete darkness.

Tripod 1 points at the lazy susan with my phone on top. I spin it around whilst the animation plays on my phone screen. Once happy I cap the lens, swap to a different lens and move to tripod 2 which is where I have a ping pong ball balanced on a torch. I place an orange gel over the torch first to tie in with the colour of the animation.
