As every catlover in the HivePets community can confirm, cats are definitely masters of drama, whether they want to achieve something or just get your attention, cats will use all kinds of tricks to get us to fall for them.
This time our kitty, Mimi Sugar, came home after playing all morning with a drama worthy of a Hollywood movie, because when it was time for her midday meal she came into the house and threw herself on the floor in desperation and started meowing loudly and panting like a dog.
My wife and I were very scared since this behavior is not normal for cats, and since cats are mistreated a lot where we live, we immediately thought that she had been poisoned or that someone had hit her so hard that she had run out of air.
But after some quick research on the internet we realized that when a cat is exposed to a lot of heat or has been running around for a long time it will pant like a dog to catch its breath and quickly normalize its temperature. And although it is not normal for them to do it commonly, it is normal for them to do it when it is very hot or they are extremely tired, that is to say during extreme cases.
And after reading that little information from the internet, we agreed that it was just what was happening to our cat, since currently the temperature where we are is around 38° to 42°, so it would be normal to see our cat like this, also another factor to take into account is that she is a cat with abundant fur, although it may not be very noticeable, but as if she has it, she suffocates very quickly.
So to help her normalize her temperature my wife and I carried her and gave her air with a magazine, and then we put her in front of a fan where she fell asleep for a few hours.
After she woke up after a long nap of 3 and a half hours our Mimi was very hungry and eager to keep running and playing, so after giving her a tasty plate of liver pasta with rice, Mimi kept running around to suffocate even more.
From this situation that scared us a lot, we are left with really beautiful pictures because for the first time we could see our dear Mimi showing us a beautiful smile and posing for us to take some pictures of her, because as you may know according to my previous posts it is very difficult to capture the most beautiful moments of Mimi.
So if you live in a very hot area and you ever see your cat panting like a dog does, do not panic or be alarmed as it is normal for cats to do this in order to get out of overheating or suffocation and quickly regulate their body temperature.
