Street children !! The another name of the most disadvantaged children in Bangladesh. Street children don’t grow up normally, they grow up through thousands of difficulties.
Street children do not go to school like other children. They sell various items on the streets to earn own expense. Sometimes they work as bus helpers, sometimes they break bricks and sometimes they clean hotels. In most cases, they support their families. Some child’s have no father & some haven't both. Some child’ s have both father and mother, but they are unable to earn enough to support the family. As a result, they have become a symbol of their family's trust.
Bangladesh is currently a developing country. In 2020, the per capita income of the people of Bangladesh was 2227 US dollars. In Bangladeshi Currency which is about 2,00,000 TK. This income clearly shows how developed our country is! As a result, Bangladesh is home to more than 600,000 street children, of whom about 84% live in the capital Dhaka. Most of the others live in Dhaka city.
About half of the population of Bangladesh lives below the poverty line. According to another source, Bangladesh is currently ranked 137th in the Human Development Index. This level reflects the quality of life of the people of our country. And street children and child labor are now commonplace in this country.
Lack of necessary employment in the country is increasing unemployment as well as poverty. Extreme poverty is increasing the number of street children day by day. As a result, street boys and girls are getting involved in illegal earnings. The main reason is not getting proper education. As well as lack of family and social education. Street children are generally deprived of basic rights. They have no formal education. Lacking the necessary education, they lose their human values.
Some of the country's insidious people use street children in their work. Street boys and girls are often forced to act against their will. From begging to drug dealing by them, some evil people. It is often seen that street children are involved in drug abuse.
Necessary steps to solve the problem of street children:
The government of our country has to take steps to remedy the problem of street children. Adequate facilities should be provided for the rehabilitation of street children. I think it is necessary to form welfare boards if necessary and arrange separate funding for them.
It is also possible to solve this problem socially. In this case, family education is very important. Care should be taken to ensure that street children are not deprived of family and social education. In this case, the role of various NGOs is very important.
The good news is that many government and non-government organizations have come forward to solve this problem. The government social services department has been working on this for a long time. Besides, various NGOs are also working with street children. Now special educational institutions for street children have been set up in many parts of the country. Personally, many are coming forward to help street children. Now it is often seen that clothes and food are being distributed among the street children either individually or institutionally. These little gifts bring smiles to the faces of street children.
