Be part of this space long enough and obtaining Bitcoin becomes almost taken for granted. In the sense that you know the right places to go and get some. Exchanges, OTC websites, even person-to-person. The options are numerous and abundant. But according to recent comments made by senior market analyst at Etoro, Mati Greenspan, all that is about to change and fast.
His main reasoning relates to the "halvening" as well as the limited supply, compounded by the amount of lost BTC due to hardware failures or lost passwords. Here is a quote directly from him:
“The recent surges in Bitcoin are mainly based on the supply side. There’s already a shortage of Bitcoin in the world and with the halving event coming up next May, the countdown to even less supply has already begun.”
I completely agree with this point of view. One day in the future (and not too distant either), people who actually own 1 Bitcoin will be considered an absolutely rarity. The general public who wish to obtain some will be talking in fractions. Some form of terminology for expressing these fractions will be employed as well, I'm sure. Remember that it's open season on purchasing BTC. Meaning whales can stock up on masses of them, leaving relatively few left over for everyone else. And judging by future predictions of increasing demand, well, it's not hard to see where all this is headed.
And those of us in the space now can attest to bearing witness to the whole damn thing unfolding before our very eyes. Imagine that, right? A world where individual Bitcoin's actually run out!
Suddenly, even the current price of $9,000 per coin doesn't sound too bad... :)
