I gotta say. This years E3 has amazing. Some of the new titles coming out are nothing short of spectacular. From Cyberpunk 2077 to Doom: Eternal. The graphics, sounds and overall feel, is almost a shock to the system in regards to how far the gaming industry has come. However the biggest hitter for me was the preview of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Oh... my... God!!! They've teased us with several screenshots and cutscenes in the past, but can now reveal what it's actually gonna be like to play. "Mind blown" is putting it mildly. Anyways, I've got this burning rush to once again visit Midgar and replay the original PS1 classic before this new beast gets released in early 2020.
I've long been an avid retro-gamer and so game expo's like this, really get me charged up. Final Fantasy VII is one of my favourite games of all time so playing through it again is an absolute pleasure. I find the Raspberry Pi 3B+ to be possibly the best choice for firing up all those old-school classics, with the gaming software installed on it called RetroPie. At around £28 ($35) for the unit, it's a steal. I luckily had most of the other components to get it up and running (oh yeah, I did buy a case too, but that's it). Check it out below. The one I use has got a 256gb SD card inserted with loads of games for various emulated machines. Libraries of games, in fact. I do love the attractive menu system that allows you to navigate through your collection. There are various skins you can select too, but I like the one that already comes pre-loaded on RetroPie.
Just as a matter of information, the second pie you see there on the left, is what I use to watch movies and television, but that's a chat for another day. As you can see, I've got quite a collection of retro classics already downloaded onto it. On a slight side note, Tekken 3 (pictured in the menu) is still one of the best beat 'em ups ever made. Will never get tired of that title, that's for damn sure. But anyways, back to the point of this post. Replaying Final Fantasy VII. I find this setup is all you need to recreate all that 90's pixelated nostalgia.
