A surfer's paradise that offers a lot aside from big waves.

Baler is one of the top surf destinations here in the Philippines but aside from being a surfer's paradise, it is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Province of Aurora. A small quaint town that offers a lot when it comes to beaches and history.

A paradise that is about 5-6 hours drive from Manila that is endowed with an array of natural wonders. It may be famous for surfing but the province has tons of places to visit aside from the big waves.

I myself is not a surfer but the place simply catches my heart that I even went there twice already. Join me in revisiting the laid-back town of Baler which offers thrilling activities and a lot more.

Surf at Sabang Beach

Sabang Beach is where you'll find the soft gray sand and thrilling big waves that are crashing on the shore. The waves could reach up to 14 feet during the peak season. The water is shallow but the big swells are strong which makes it an ideal place to learn to surf. There are many surfing schools alongside the beach that offers surfboard rental plus instructor that is about Php500($10) per hour.

Aside from the surf schools, there is also a lineup of resorts, restaurants, and cafes that would entertain if you are not up for a surfing lesson.

A 600-year-old Balete Tree

Balete Park in Maria Aurora Town is famous for the grandest millennium Balete tree that you can find in the Philippines. It is also the biggest Balete tree in Asia that standing at 215 feet with a diameter of almost 200 feet. Can you imagine how big it is?

The cave like inner part of the Balete Tree

Its roots already formed a cave that you can freely go in and out of, you just have to find the parts of the roots that you can slide in to go out. You can also climb it up to the midpoint or if you are brave enough you can climb up to the top. Wondering if I did climb up? Of course, yes, I wouldn't let a chance pass to experience climbing a tree especially a tree that is humongous and old like that. The entrance fee to the park is about Php10 or about a quarter dollar which also serves as your parking fee.

Baler Museum

Quezon Park is where you will find the Museo de Baler. It is also here where you will find the statue of former President Manuel Luis Quezon. (sorry I can't find my picture of the statue of President Quezon) Inside the museum you will find priceless artifacts and memorabilia through its displays of sculptures, paintings and work of arts. Sucker for history? You will definitely enjoy it here. The history about the town, the hispanic heritage of Baler, and even some items from the Galleon Trade that is recovered from the shipwrecks in Manila, Luzon and Palawan are all inside this museum.

Dicasalarin Cove

Now, this cove is my favorite, there's two way to get here. One is through habal-habal (motorbike ride) and the other is renting a banca(boat). Which did I choose? renting a banca! where I enjoyed the waves while watching the breathe taking scenery. The boat ride is about 20 t0 30 minutes going to the cove.

Soft white sand beach, clear blue waters, rock formations that you can hike up is what Dicasalarin offers. You will also love snorkling here as the underwater is full of colors that comes from the corals and sea creatures.

This secluded cove is privately owned by the Angara's family but is open for a daytime visit and if you want to stay for an overnight you have to make a booking in advance. They have nice cottages and a glamping tent that will make you feel so comfortable.

There are still tons of places that I haven't visited in Baler that is why it is still in my list that I want to go back too and hopefully on my next visit I'lll be able to see them all. Three days and two nights is not enough to fully enjoy this town and to think that I've been there twice already.
