Talking to a friend I have that was sharing their mortgage company woes and issues they're having, I came across a bit of interesting information.
Did you know that by law when a finance company buys your debt from another finance company they don't have to let you know that the debt has changed hands. If they don't let you know through a statement with the company that you're dead has changed hands and you did not agree to allow the debt to change hands that unless the new company can produce a document saying that you agreed to pay the new company your debt loan, by law you don't have to pay the debt to the new company and they have to issue a statement stating that you have no debt with the new company.
I know I know. I did not believe it either but upon some research I found out that this is true. Have I tested the theory, no because I don't have a mortgage. But I did find out that concept works for any creditors you have that are trying to collect a debt and the debt has changed hands. I have tried that information with a company that has illegally charge an account on my credit. I fought the issue and they had to remove it because there was nothing that I signed stating that I owed a debt to this new company. Don't believe me research it for yourself!
