South Korean experts debate whether the coronavirus pandemic could accelerate the adoption of blockchain-based voting networks. A number of blockchain-powered initiatives had already been piloted in the Asian country prior to the outbreak, however analysts are now looking to step up these adoption projects to reduce the risk of the virus spreading to polling stations in the upcoming elections. Two government ministries have already participated in pilot projects, but remain concerned that legal obstacles and technical difficulties could slow the progress of the initiative.
South Korean cosmetics giant Amorepacific has spoken again about its plans to incorporate blockchain technology. The firm first unveiled its blockchain intentions in February this year, becoming the first major South Korean cosmetics and beauty company to do so. The company's president affirmed his commitment to blockchain adoption in a speech, where he promised that the company would create a new industry 4.0-powered digital platform for its customers.
As the Covid-19 pandemic expands, organizers of the TEAMZ Crypto Blockchain Summit, one of the largest blockchain conferences in Japan, have decided not to cancel it and conduct it virtually, online. The event, one of the most important blockchain meetings in Asia, was scheduled for the end of April this year, and had already been rescheduled for September. However, as the health crisis worsened, TEAMZ has announced that the event will take place virtually for five days in May.
Rakuten Wallet, the smartphone-based wallet service operated by Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten, has started offering leveraged trades. Trade will be limited to x2, meeting legal limits that will soon be imposed in Japan. The company first announced its margin trading intentions earlier this month and has already added support for leveraged trading of litecoin (LTC) and ripple (XRP).
The eThaler project, which uses the Ethereum blockchain to create a central bank digital currency (CBDC), can now be accelerated due to plans related to the "digital dollar" in the United States. A group of professionals from consulting firms Accenture and InfoSys and Banco Itaú in Brazil have been working on the open source project to explore the future of the central bank currency issued on a blockchain. The token issuance system will comply with the Token Taxonomy Framework, a collection of standards for companies using Ethereum, developed by JPMorgan Chase, ConsenSys and other members of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance.
