Here comes the usual spot again. Full of little wildflowers to discover. This is the second Sesamoides that I have fund in this spot. The previous one - Sesamoides spathulifolia looks almost the same with the same colours, but it seems bigger and the flowers on the stem are more compact.
Sesamoides purpurascens
It is one of the spring blooming flowers (both types) intensively visited by bees. It can be found in Portugal, Spain and south parts of France. It does likes the heat and it grows and blooms in open spaces on very poor soil. By the summer heat it is gone though.
Blooming time starts in late march and the flowers on the stems will bloom sequentially. Each can dozens of tiny little white flowers. And while on the first ones turn to seed pods, the tip still holds buds waiting to open.
The stems can extend even up to 50 cm in length though they stay close to the soil and only the tip is raised higher. It seems as they are very short plans this way.
