I eat when I'm hungry, not when lunch is being served downtown

That's why I get so annoyed in Portugal, when I (rarely, but still) try to get some food when I want and all the places are closed cause it is way passed lunchtime. Only coffee shops with sweet cookies or some sandwiches if I am lucky.

Your Curtido sounds a but like our sour cabbage (Sourcrout). We don't add the peppers or onions though. Only cabbage, carrot, salt, bay leaf and cumin seeds (some people skip the cumin).
