I finished this amazing book while in the hospital, and my favorite character in the book is Amy. She had the best ending (doting husband that knows he needs to make her happy or else, fame (& fortune I assume), getting away with it all. I'm kind of surprised though, given she can clearly hold a grudge and take revenge for the people she believes have wronged her, but she lets Greta and Jeff get away with her money.
I personally enjoyed and am satisfied with the ending that Amy never got caught, tbh I couldn't imagine if she did, which I think gives a look into her sociopathic ways. Also interesting that Nick is kind of the exact opposite, he already shows significant empathy to his unborn son, willing to be at the mercy of Amy just to be a father. But I find it interesting how different genders feel about the book, I've seen some reviews that hate the ending because she got away with it, others love it because she did.
I equally hated and loved both Amy and Nick (in a good way). How in the end Nick really got into the mind of Amy, coming to the conclusion that Amy was right and they needed each other. It's kind of terrifying yet interesting how Nick and Amy became one, they knew what the other was doing (even if there was malice in it) and went along with it. The two aren't exactly yin and yang but we see that they still fit, Desi was a perfect match for Amy but she hated him, felt trapped and knew she couldn't reshape him.
Normally, I'm not a fan of alternating perspectives between two characters, especially if we just see them talk about the same events. But for this book I really enjoyed that writing structure and it was a great read!
