I have been helping out at a local museum for a little over a month. I help out for 2 hour intervals usually go in 2-3 times a week. I help head of design. We brainstorm ways to update certain collections, design and mount posters on wooden panels. sanding and painting boards. Fixing up and cleaning the insides of displays. Creating new exhibitions and encouraging local businesses to get involved. I also help out the (slow) taxidermy department. Mostly watching over the chemical cleaning buckets at the moment (awful smell) It is a lot of running around and heavy lifting but I really enjoy it.
It has been incredibly rewarding so far. Especially knowing that I can walk around the museum and see the input I have made. I really enjoy these sorts of things and being able to exercise a multitude of skills. Being able to aid conservation efforts and maintaining the history of Earth. It is hard work. Boards and displays are solid wood and are heavy to lug around, running around the whole time is exhausting but it has been fun. I look forward to continuing to assist there.
