This is what I’ve been up to for the past few days, quite literally nothing else during my waking hours.
I barely ever make beanies, I think I’ve only ever knitted one. I don’t wear hats or beanies very often, even though I live in the chilly Finland, so that’s probably why I don’t make them. I am actually in need of proper good and cute beanies so of course I want to make one myself.
I found this gorgeous alpaca and silk yarn my mom had given me so I decided to use it up. I checked a few patterns and tried them out and unraveled it all because I wasn’t happy with it. I finally made up my mind to do a fisherman’s rib because it makes for a nice and fluffy surface. I did suspect that I wouldn’t have enough yarn, so I actually hid grey yarn under the fold so I could save the white yarn to all the visible parts. When I finished the hat, I had all of 30cm of yarn left. By the way, I doubled the yarn to make it thicker and I only had two 50g skeins.
I’m not completely happy with this and definitely there are mistakes and I still need to block this, but I’d say this is a decent prototype. I think I’m gonna go and buy a similar yarn, maybe something with mohair so it’s fluffier, and get enough of it to make a bit bigger hat. I also need to get a proper size of circular needles as I did these with double ended ones and because this yarn is very slippery and the work itself a bit too big to be done on those, I kept loosing stitches which is soooo annoying.
Special hi to @neumannsalva for inviting me to join the
@needleworkmonday community. This is my first post to the community. Ps. I sewed in all the ends immediately!
