It’s becoming a habit that we hit the second hand shops, especially those that carry vintage and antiques, on the weekends. Most of our furniture and decor is second hand, some from family and friends, and others from fleamarkets, all acquired carefully with a lot of thought and time.
Todays finds consist of a pair of candelabras and Marshal Mannerheim print. We’ve been looking for both and hit the jackpot at a second hand shop we hadn’t visited before. It’s been on our list but always closed when we were near but seeing their amazing curated selection and very reasonable prices, it might become our new favourite.
Our lord and savour Mannerheim is now hanging on the library wall, really elevating the space and making sure everyone knows we still remember how Finland gained its independence. Respect.
There is a story about how Mannerheim once bought a restaurant in Hanko because he was pissed off about the ruckus that would go on next door until the wee hours of the night. That’s how you deal with things you don’t like; you buy it all and dictate what you want to do with it. Mannerheim is my spirit animal. I’ve been to that restaurant by the way, it’s a gorgeous little thing at the sea shore on top of a rock.
Along with Mannerheim, the newest thing to adorn our house is a pair of candelabras. I decided to put them in the entryway because while our livingroom and library have come together really well already, many other rooms are wayyyy too modern. We have plans for the entryway but for now a pair of gorgeous candelabras already elevates and sets the mood for future decor decitions.
