I bought a used but not abused macro lens, my first ever, a couple months back but haven't shot with it much yet. I prefer too shoot handheld so having to be super precise and using a tripod is something I really need to be in the mood for in order to do it. Patience is a virtue, but not something I have.

Spring and sunshine inspired me to dig out the macro and try and get that classic or cliche eye shot in macro. Turns out, it's actually pretty darn hard, especially when the eyes you are using are your own. It took me a lot of very intense staring into the lens, trying to hold completely still, even moving them eyeballs can cause the image to not be in focus. I ended up resting my head against the wall and using my phone as the remote so I could get the focus on the actual eyeball.

The picture above is shot with an aperture of f/13, and below at f/5,6, it wouldn't hurt to stop down all the way, but then I would have had to get out the lights too.

Shot with the Nikon D750 and Sigma 105mm macro.
