At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to;
- Define family
- Write out two types of family
- Give examples of the two types of family
Previous Knowledge:
The pupils should have heard of family and should be living with their parents and siblings as families.

Step 1:
Definition of family
A family is a group of people who are closely related by blood. A family usually originates from the union of a man and a woman through marriage.
Step 2:
Types of marriage
- The nuclear family
- The extended family
The Nuclear Family:
A nuclear family is a simple family made up of father, mother and children.
The Extended Family:
The extended family includes all the people that are related by blood through the father and the mother. They include father, mother, grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, etc.
Evaluation:
The teacher ask the pupils the following questions to ascertain their level of understanding.
- Is your family a nuclear or an extended family?
- What is family
Homework
- Give three reasons why your family live together
- Write out the two types of family
- How many grandparents do you have?
