I love to cook a lot and varieties at that. idowu-kunlere@idowu-kunlere can testify to how much I cook. Some days back I cooked a super delicious vegetable soup with assorted meat to which I treated my husband and my brother to the sumptuous meal. I expected a comment after the meal, but not a word came from either of them. You can imagine how much i felt bad 😭😭

I challenged my brother for not passing a comment about the meal knowing full well it was yummy. "Ahhhhh" he exclaimed.

Sincerely I had it in mind to thank you for the job well done" he added.

He checked through his phone thinking he had sent me a message to say thank you. I saw the sincerity in his reply and I was grateful that, he at least appreciated the effort put into the cooking.

Two days afterwards, I put up a post on Facebook and Instagram asking:

question

You can be sure there were varying responses to that.

One of such responses was

It's not a bad idea but a rule shouldn't be made out of it.

Well, this is not about setting a rule that husbands must thank their wives after meals but it boils down to gratitude in relationships.

You must have heard the magic words rhyme before:

There are 5 magic words that I know: Please, Excuse me, Sorry, THANK YOU, and the last one, Pardon me.

These words and phrases are called magic words because they are magical in their effects.

Oftentimes we tend to over look the sacrifices that our partners make for us thinking those sacrifices should be their responsibility.

In the part of the world where i come from, it's the husband's responsibility to provide for his home (but not all men do so) and the wife supports in all possible ways. So if your husband is able to provide for your home, you should appreciate him for that regularly. Learn to say "Thank you".

A whole lot goes into cooking especially, delicious meals. It is courtesy for you to say Thank you for the effort, time and energy. If you think cos you provided the money, then you shouldn't say "thank you", you can as well put your money in the pot and see whether it would transform into the meal you just ate.

Your daughter, son, colleague, friend, neighbor does something for you, no matter how minute, learn to say thank you.

Gratitude is a sign that your memory serves you right. An ingrate is one who is either unmindful or forgetful of the good deeds done him/her.

So, if you are not unmindful of the stress she went through to cook, clean the house, tend the baby, lay the bed, get the kids ready for school, say Thank You as often as you can.

If you are not unmindful of the long hours he works to ensure their is constant supply of funds for the upkeep of the home; the sacrifices he makes to ensure your family enjoys all the comfort, please, say thank you".

And you know what? You need not feel like it to say thank you.

Saying thank you qualifies you for the next big thing.

It energies your husband, wife, son, daughter, friend, boss, apprentice, neighbour, etc to do even more and go the extra mile.

I feel terrible when my efforts go unnoticed and unappreciated. Everyone wants to feel appreciated.

I love a friend's comment on the post on Instagram. He said

My mum raised us to always say thank you after a meal. Till today, whenever we are done eating, we give thanks to whom it is due.

I fell in love with his mum reading that comment.

The truth is, when we use these magic words around our children, they imbibe them and they learn to be courteous when dealing with people.

Who's that person who you've been making his/her efforts go unnoticed? Share in the comment section how you've been doing so and how you want to turn a new leaf going forward.

Thank you for taking out time to read this post. I see our relationships blossoming with the Magical Thank You.
