I totally agree about the book to screen adaptation. You should see me in the cinema during the screening of LOTR saying outloud "THIS didn't happen in the book" (and I have to admit that I loved the film, but it was frustrating for me)
The book Zorbas the Greek and the film is quite interesting. But you have to remember that the plot is set in a Greek rural village in the first quarter of the 20th century (because you could find some scenes that are triggers.
Anyway, Nikos Kazantzakis also wrote "Last Temptetation of Christ" that was shot too, as a movie,starring Willem Dafoe.
