Formed and Sent
What I am
Is not
Who I am.
Bestow your titles
With judicious considerations,
Like Adam in Eden
Gazing at the yet unnamed
Mass of animals.
A bear, a lion, an otter.
A lawyer, or a potter.
A fly, a tiger, a ducky.
A lumberjack, or a techy.
Names and titles-
Thrown on like we are
Packages
Waiting on a shipment line.
Predetermined purpose.
Presupposed value.
But,
I am more.
I must be more.
As a carpenter is not
Made of wood,
As the blower is not
Made of glass.
So too,
No coffee flows
Through the barista's veins,
Blood, not beer,
Keeps alive the bartender.
Tender is the heart.
Strong willed is the mind.
Full is his breath.
And acute his imagination.
Each is the architect
Of his own destiny,
The painter of his
Self-portrait,
The author of his life.
These feeble attempts
We make to
Encapsulate
And contain
All that is a person
Into one word
Is a divine insult.
As Adam
Cast names on those of his
Stewardship
So to does our
Protector have
The selfsame
Claim to this heart
That resides deep
With my breast.
Never assault
That power.
It is the power
To form
And
Send.
