Dear Mom and Dad,
Hi, this is your child, you know in case you've completely forgotten about the life you both created. I always wonder how you guys are doing, since I never really got the chance to meet you both except for the dreams and vivid images i had of you guys. Nevertheless, I am writing (another) letter to you for I don't know whatever reason. Maybe I'm still holding on for a hope that you guys would magically read this. But I know that life doesn't work that way. So yeah, it's fine if you wouldn't reply back to this- unless there is a way for you to reach me then that would be great! Awesome even!
Anyway, the reason why I wanted you guys to read this letter is to just let you know how my life is going. Well, I'm fine and breathing as usual but something happened in the last couple of months. Something ordinary maybe to some, but puzzling to me. Why you might ask? Let me take you back to when I was a kid.
I used to have vivid images of you guys. Of how life would be if you were in it. I used to think of a place. It maybe a figment of my imagination but it felt so surreal. It's like it was in my memory.
I was walking along the shoreline of a beach and I remember how the warmth of sand felt beneath my feet. How the wind was brushing through my skin. And when I looked up, there were you guys. How dad happily chased mom as you both were giggling about something. I was laughing alongside when you guys decided to come to me, pick me up and we all frolicked in the waves. I remember how it made me feel all warm and giddy inside. And at that moment, I said to myself-- this is what love is.
But that was not the case. You see, I found love. It wasn't on the beach, it wasn't all sunny and breezy. It was at 1 AM in the morning at the top of the roof of my apartment while looking up the stars and my arms around someone I fell in love with. We were talking about our dreams, fears and the last episode of the series we binged watch. The night was freezing and the only light we had were the stars.
But you know my secret? I wouldn't have it any other way. While I was snuggling with the person I love, it took me back to my memory on the beach. It may be different but it still felt like waves crashing, sun blazing, and wind blowing. The love I have today is way better than the love I thought of as a kid. So yeah, I'm happy to tell you guys that I found love on my rooftop, wrapped around old blankets, underneath the stars.
So whenever I think of love, I wouldn't be thinking about the figment of us being on the beach, it would be this. In the early mornings on my rooftop with no one but the two of us-- this is what love is.
Till next time,
Euii
