No its not an Ewok, its a new primate species discovered in the tropical forest of southwest China. Star Wars loving scientists named the new primate species "Skywalker hoolock gibbon".
According to researchers there is an estimated 200 Skywalker hoolock gibbons living in the tropical forests of China with some living in the nearby country of Myanmar.
Dr. Sam Turvey of the Zoological Society of London, a member of the research team, thinks the new species should be classified as an endangered species due to the small population and loss of habitat. Logging in the region is also causing fragmentation of their habitat.
When informed of the name of the new primate species Mark Hamill tweeted he was proud to have a new Simian Skywalker and Jungle Jedi named after his Luke Skywalker character.
