At one time I was aware of someone having an auction on the STEEM blockchain.

I bought a painting using STEEM during one of the auctions.

I have not had anyone take me up on paying for one of the pictures with STEEM. The pictures posted on SteemIt are lower resolution than the originals. I figure I would e-mail the original to the buyer. If the buyer wants exclusive rights to the picture then the price in STEEM would be higher. Then I would mark the picture as sold and not sell or use it again.

I am not sure what happened to the auctions.
