I have only been privileged to work for about 6months for an internship with one of the top oil companies in Nigerian, even though it was just an internship and not a full job I still had my share of Interpersonal demands and the stress it brings as a young lady in the male-dominated profession.

I studied geology and petroleum studies and At the time I had dreams of becoming an exploration expert, I wanted to work in the field, explore oil and gas and I knew to advance In that career getting an internship with the top dogs would put me in the map somehow.

I fought so hard to get a spot in the exploration department of the company, I needed straight A’s in the major courses to have a foot in the door and I did that.

I had heard stories from other interns about the interpersonal demands that come with the job, especially as a female in our line of work but I was determined to change the narrative In my department and I did.

Like the questionask

You've just accepted a position at the company you desire to work for. You meet the educational requirements. However, what makes you confident you can handle the interpersonal demands the position requires? Cite three reasons and explain.

If those 6 months had taught me anything it is that I can confidently handle whatever interpersonal demand that would be thrown at me with these interpersonal skills I possess

ASSERTIVENESS
I am always clear about what I want and where I stand. I know my worth so I always set boundaries. Setting boundaries is important because it helps direct our purpose and removes lots of distractions to set boundaries I have to be assertive; speak up calmly and politely.

For example; during my internship, we work so late into our lunch break and the company provides the food, so someone needs to be assigned to pick up the food from the canteen, I noticed in my first month I was sent to get the meal every time and most days return the plates too And run lots of errands that anyone else could easily do I didn't see it as a big deal Initially till I realize what was going on. I had to speak up and I even negotiated a WIN-WIN situation for everyone so they can all get involved in the errands too, besides we were all interns at the same level and that was the end of my endless errands.

2: ADAPTABILITY
I can cope in any situation I find myself, as a woman in my field there are some things the other intern and staff assumed I shouldn't be able to do, they try not to get me involved in them too but I needed the experience like working with some machines, even though it was hard at first, I was able to create a coping strategy to adapt to the use of the machine and it made me more efficient in my work.

3 TEAM-WORK
I am a good team player, I offer help to others when I can, I listen actively to understand better than assume, I give respect to everyone from the least to the highest person on the chain of command, and I give absolute transparency in all my dealing at work, which makes it quick for me to earn peoples trust.

with these three interpersonal skills, I am certain that I can overcome any interpersonal demands that may arise in any workplace I find myself and even if these are not enough I would develop myself in other personal skills and handle the situation that's Thanks to the fact that I can easily adapt.
