A day had passed since Volkov killed my daughter, took my boys and husband with him. Grief was my companion since then, and pain became my source of strength.
Volkov gave me seven days to bring the hefty sum of money he accused Jackson, my husband of stealing. He took a piece of my heart away when he killed my daughter right before my eyes. For that, I vowed to come for his soul.
Behind some rocky hills that gave me a good vantage point to watch the Volkov’s estate which is located on the outskirts of Louisiana. His estate sits on a large expanse of land and was surrounded by oak trees. I was able to know the details of his security, and I discovered that my sons and husband were held captive right in the heart of his estate. After I saw the situation, I realized that I can't rescue my family alone, I’d need more help and power.
It was time to go back home!
Twelve hours later…
As I stepped off the train in Boston, a gust of crisp autumn air welcomed me to the beautiful city I practically grew up in. It was strange and nostalgic at the same time. As usual, the atmosphere was vibrant and spiced up with the scent of fallen leaves. I had missed this. Without more wasted time, I made my way through the bustling of the city to get to Crimson Shadows Club (CSC). I can't guarantee my father won't have me killed when I turn up on his doorstep.
As I got closer to the club a whisper of uncertainty echoed within me. A reckoning awaited me at the threshold of my father's empire. How would I convince him to help rescue my family? Will he mock me? Will he kill me for breaking his heart? Some many questions of uncertainty and fear of disappointment swirled in my mind that I couldn't help not being nervous and anxious.
I took a deep breath and walked into my father's club with my head high up. The atmosphere was a familiar one. The air was thick with the scent of old whiskey and a blend of cigar smoke. People sat in pairs as they carried on with their hushed conversations, which created an ambiance of whispered secrets. Jazz music played in the background, attempting to drown out the whispers.
The lighting of the club casted a warm glow on all the leather-clad booths and vintage furniture in the building which gave it a neon-punk vibe. So I opted for a booth that was concealed from the lights opposite the bar. I needed to know who my father's right hand man was. As I sat and watched as people went about their business, Sergey emerged from the exclusive inner rooms reserved for my father and his men.
Sergey’s massive frame was adorned in a well tailored Italian suit. Standing at 6 feet 6 inches, he moved gracefully like a panther. His jet-black hair was cropped short and neatly groomed which made him look odd. The Sergey I knew a decade ago didn't care about his looks or hygiene. What has changed? Is he my father's right hand man? What about Viktor? He had potential? Was he dead?
Sergey took a seat at the bar as he tickled and touched the waitress in inappropriate places while she prepared his drink. I waited patiently until he finished his drink before I walked up to him.
”Sergey, it's been a while.” I said as I sat close to him.
Eyes flared, Sergey abruptly stood up and pulled out his glock on me. His reaction to my presence prompted my father's men to pull out their guns towards me too while two huge men flanked Sergey. Then I knew he was my father's right hand man.
”I see you have a death wish. It's been what? Twelve years now?” Sergey blurted out without any respect for me but with a hint of fear in his voice.
I raised my hands in surrender and said, ”I am only here to see my father. Don't make this difficult, Sergey”
Hush whispers followed after my words. Do people in the club now realize who I am?
Sergey caressed his beard with his hand and whispered into the ears of one the men that flanked him. All of sudden the mountain of man went and began to clear out people who were not my father's men from the club. Sergey called the shots here.
He waited until everyone was cleared before he spoke. I still had over twenty guns pointed at me and any wrong move from me would result in an instant death.
”Your father gave the order to kill you on sight. Now, Maria, give me a good reason I shouldn't kill you right now?” Sergey said while his eyes roamed my face searching for answers.
”Well, if you let my father know that I am here, you would have a good reason not to kill me.”
Clap Clap Clap
A footstep approached and I'd recognize the sound of that footstep even in blindfolds. Before I knew it, there was a gunshot.
