And then, I see it. In the heart of this oasis, gardening becomes art: a beautiful heart formed with plants beats silently on the ground. It's not just an ornament; it's an intimate detail, a romantic touch amidst the historical majesty of the place, seemingly encapsulating the welcoming soul of this Havana corner.
Suddenly, the rustling of leaves and the murmur of conversations quiet down. A burst of color bursts onto the scene. It's him, the Peacock, the hotel's most distinguished and photogenic resident. With his calm gait and majestic bearing, he strolls among the wicker furniture and the guests, the undisputed master of the place.
I can't help but feel like I've been transported into a fairy tale. When it decides to unfurl its tail in a fan of emeralds, sapphires, and gold, the spectacle is so breathtaking that time seems to stand still. It's a living reminder of the magic that dwells in this courtyard, a beautiful encounter that transforms a simple visit into an unforgettable memory.
Another beauty of the courtyard is a white marble sculpture that adorns the exterior of the hotel. Its presence and stature evoke the hotel's golden age, a reminder of its grandeur and the refinement of those who built it.
On either side, like silent guardians, stand two original cannons from the old Santa Clara Battery. They are echoes of a more warlike past, silent witnesses that this promontory was once a Spanish fortress built to protect the city from pirates. This contrast between the serene beauty of the garden and the ruggedness of the cannons is part of the place's unique charm.
But the magic doesn't end in the courtyard. As I peer over the edge of the hill, the horizon opens up to one of Havana's most breathtaking wonders. The immense, intense blue of the Atlantic Ocean merges with the sky in an endless line, and below, the Malecón stretches like a ribbon bordering the city.

It's the perfect place to sit on one of the comfortable sofas, order a mojito, and simply observe. Watching the sunset from here, with the sun painting the sea in shades of orange and gold, while peacocks roam around you, is an experience that encapsulates the essence of Cuba: a blend of history, natural beauty, and a touch of magic that only a place like the Hotel Nacional can offer.
