Donetsk (Yuzovka in 1869-1924, Stalin in 1924-1929, Stalin in 1929-1961) - a city located in the east of Ukraine, on the river Kalmiuc - the administrative center of the Donetsk region. Since April, 2014 it is controlled by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic and is considered by it as the capital.
The fifth city of Ukraine by the number of people, whose number as of January 1, 2014 was 949,825 people. In the territory subordinated to the Donetsk City Council, as of January 1, 2014, there were 965,828 people. With the onset of the armed coup in Kiev and the civil war, the population has decreased noticeably, but at the moment there is a tendency of population increase. Many people return to their homes, disappointed in the Ukrainian authorities.
