Canada is unlike the United States, but the recent FreedomConvoy protest has tested the worlds perception of Canada being a stable democratic country. In just a few short weeks, Canada went from being a bastion of economic liberties and general liberty to being an authoritarian state where if you're suspected of supporting a peaceful protest your finances will be targeted.
Freezing bank accounts is a serious offense, no matter what side you're on regarding the trucker's protest. On the world stage, Canada showed to the world how they feel about people who bring them their food. Apparently, they do NOT respect them. In my opinion, Canada's stability as a nation is slowly crumbling. Will it dissolve into a civil conflict? It's very doubtful. Yet, the tension in Canada is certainly increasing with unfounded claims and accusations being thrown at the conservative wing of Canada.
The conservative wing of Canada is nothing like the conservatives here in the United States, yet for someone reason the "liberal" party has convinced the public that the Conservatives are somehow racist and nazi's just because a miniscule fraction of the protesters came to protests with a nazi flag. This is a common tactic here in the USA that is used by the Democrats against the Republicans. In the US, this is just normal politics, but in Canada, these accusations aren't typical.
This signifies a turning point in Canadian politics where civility and truthfulness has gone out the window. Sincerity and honor have been replaced with vitriol and hatred. Politicians in parliament has always had some witty comebacks and the entire presentation sometimes is chaotic but watching Parliament recently has made me question the nation of Canada.
Not sure where this is all heading, but I do not believe Canada is as stable as some Canadians believe it is. If freezing people's finances in Canada doesn't ignite more separatist movements or protests, then maybe I can assume things will be OK. Yet, who knows what will happen as a result of these authoritarian policies.
