I had a conversation like this with green energy activists who dislike what we do in the Middle East to acquire essential resources. I asked them, do you think foreign countries will give Americans cobalt or lithium? They didn't really have an answer, but they were optimistic about their trade of them. I informed them that Lithium isn't too common in allied territories, some of our regional rivals, or international rivals have an abundance of lithium. So, I said, if we want to move towards green energy, we have to have control over these resources so that restrictive abusive countries do not get rich on American trade.

That leaves them quite stunned, this also doesn't include the increased levels of energy usage when charging up hundreds of thousands or millions of electric vehicles.
