A chemical compound called chlorophyll helps make photosynthesis occur in the way it absorbs light. Chlorophyll also has given the green pigment to the leaves.

Chlorophyll Absorbs light in the form of electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum. For example, sunlight contains all visible spectrum colors from red to violet, but the entire wavelength of the element is not evenly absorbed evenly by chlorophyll. Sunlight if described is actually composed of various light with different wavelengths that with the help of our prism can detect it as red light, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple. Chlorophyll absorbs red and blue-purple light which is useful in photosynthetic light reactions, while yellow, green light is reflected.
