Emily's heart was racing as she stared into the glowing eyes. She couldn't see anything else, just the eyes, staring back at her from the darkness.
Joe grabbed her arm, pulling her back. "What is it, kid?" he whispered.
Emily couldn't speak. She was frozen in terror, unable to look away from the eyes.
And then, just as suddenly as they had appeared, the eyes vanished. Emily was left standing there, feeling foolish and scared.
Joe looked at her, concerned. "You okay, kid?" he asked.
Emily nodded, still trying to process what had just happened. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said.
But she wasn't fine. She was scared, and she was getting more and more desperate by the minute. Where was Sarah? And what was happening to her?
As they continued on their way, Emily couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She kept looking over her shoulder, expecting to see the eyes again.
But there was never anything there.
After what felt like hours of walking, Joe finally stopped in front of a small, rundown apartment building. "This is it, kid," he said. "This is where we'll be safe."
Emily looked up at the building, skeptical. It didn't look very safe to her.
But Joe just nodded. "Trust me, kid," he said. "This is the place."
As they stepped inside, Emily couldn't shake the feeling that they were walking into a trap. But she didn't have any other choice.
She had to trust Joe.
And so, with a sense of trepidation, Emily followed Joe into the unknown...
