I'm in my 3rd year in college and we have Professional Practice as our work experience
Although I would much prefer an actual working experience than another assignment in college, it is still fun designing applications.
We are put into a two people group and we share the workload between each other. My partner did the research part of this assignment and I did the design and overall idea.
This idea is not to be used or shared as its my own original idea!
I copied the original text I wrote in my application research blog on wordpress which you can fully view the process here :
INFORMATION STORAGE APPLICATION📝
Our idea is an information storage based application which will allow users to scan different items by their bar code and receive information on the origin, item type and allow the user to “Love” this item which saves it to an auto generated category of items. This app will help people with memory problems to remember what items they usually buy in the store and have an information database on particular brands. As each item will be in different categories they will be easy to find. An other folder will be available just to have information on all the things the user has scanned in case they forgot to add it to a category. Its a personalized information Wikipedia-like app which is easily accessible from the user’s pocket.
FINISHED DIGITAL PROTOTYPE
This is our finished digital prototype of the app. All of the graphics made were created by using the proto.io editor which is a Photoshop like website software mainly made for prototyping. Colors, buttons, logo and everything was designed by both of us and I just implemented the ideas onto screen as part of my task.
We chose the green color because its scientifically proven to be calming and it works will with our logo. Buttons, colors and typography were all chosen as to suit the visual eye of the user and comfort ability in using the app by keeping it minimal in design.
The only aspect of these images which wasn’t made by us is the images of the pen, product images and the pen and book image in the main logo.
The main page:
If the user does not have account they have to sign up and if they do then login
Once logged in:
The user is brought to the main menu, they can start off by scanning the any product using their phone camera. They have to allow access to the phones camera first by clicking the camera button and then scanning the actual bar code.
The color of the scan button in the main menu is different and has a contrast so that it encourages the user to click it.
Item scanned:
Once a valid bar code was scanned the user is brought to the items information page automatically after a few seconds. It connects to a database which figures what stores have that specific product and at what price. A full description of the product is made as well as its ingredients and origin. The user can scroll down or up and see all the stores that sell the product and get a daily coupon for scanning which will give them a discount. Only one coupon can be used for one product a day. The user can press the heart to “Favorite” the product making it easier to find for future references in the library.
Clicking the Favorites button:
Clicking the favorites button will bring the user to a page with a list of different items they have “Favorite”‘d and a general description of them. A date when each item was scanned is available accompanied by a picture taken from the official database of stores. Each item can be clicked for more information to appear which is similar to the example above however information on when the date was scanned is on the screen and a reason to why it was scanned which was made by the user when favoring the product.
Clicking categories button:
There are also automatic categories for all products which were scanned that were placed in however the user can also make their own category like in this example. Once again the design of the My Categories button is a bit different to encourage usability.
User can create as many categories as they want and save to these particular categories which when clicked will appear in the same style as”Favorites”.
When Random facts is clicked:
A fun little feature which wont tire the user out from using the app. They can get a different fact once a day with a coupon code available for that particular day to a specific store which can be used for one item.
The navigation bar ( three lines in the upper left):
The three bars is a universal app icon which should be recognized by many. Once clicked a new window will appear flipping to the right and filling up the screen. There the user can find useful information like how to use the app, about and contact details as well as if they want to quickly go back to the main menu of check their coupon of the day.
The go back button will just flip the screen to the left and make it look back to normal.
Hope you guys enjoyed this post,
Love,
