Today was the last day at the Australian Open, the men's final was the last match and a very good one. Two of my favorites got to play today, Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic, the two best at the moment.
As I said yesterday, they both are very good and I like them both and would have been ok with whoever wins. The match started out well, both were giving all they had in order to win. Djokovic won the first set, then Thiem won the second and that's where things got interesting.
One set each gave them some security but there were still three sets to be played. I was expecting Djokovic to play flawless and Thiem to make mistakes as we all know Djokovic is more experienced but in fact both made mistakes, can't name just one. They both had 5 double faults each.
The third set went to Thiem and at that point I was hoping he will won the fourth set and win the match but that never happened. Djokovic knew exactly what's on stake here and upped the tempo. The match ended with Djokovic winning it to 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Today Djokovic was better but soon I see Thiem take his or the others place. He's very talented and if anyone had any doubts, he showed what he's capable of during the Australian open. I see some changes coming soon in tennis that will rearrange the list for sure.
Lastly I'd like to say a few words about the outfit of the players at the Australian Open.
Nike came up with some funny ideas as far as the outfits are concerned. This stained, spotted motif was present on women and men equally.
This is Nick Kyrgios in this funny outfit. He looks like going to the beach, plus his t-shirt color doesn't match his short.
This is Khachanov in this (almost) polka dot t-shirt which I found it very funny and unusual at the same time. I've never seen such a tennis outfit before.
Even though some of the outfits are funny and I don't agree with, I like the new concept and it's a good thing they are willing to change.
