Today was the day for another round of exhibition visits as it's been almost three weeks since my last one. Keeping count of when the exhibitions change is what you do, if you don't want to miss them.
Today's offer was quite diversified. One exhibition was with paintings, the other was photos and the third, what I'd like to write about was graphics, kind of ...
The exhibition was called Gra-Fo Media and it is an annual event. It used to be a graphics exhibition, which means ink, charcoal and pencil, but lately they have changed the name and added digital art too and it is not what it used to be anymore. Is it better? Is it worse? I'll show you what I saw today and you can decide for yourself.
It was quite a large exhibition, with around 38 artist exhibiting from all over the country.
Failure right at the beginning. I remember approaching the canvas, to take a photo of the label, to know who's behind the artwork, then got distracted by the conversation I had with the curator and didn't take the photo.
It's an abstract fashion portrait of a lady, a bit messy, but there are people who like this style and I know artists that are representing this artistic style. Each to their own I think.
Enikő Bíró Kálmán - Compromised Identity
Enikő Bíró Kálmán - Seeds
Enikő Bíró Kálmán - Cyclik
This is a series, I think, a very interesting one. The 1st one is called Compromised Identity, but it's a graphic with double meaning I think. That print could be the pattern you see on a woodcut, or a fingerprint? Both are tied to identity as the pattern on the woodcut is the tree's identity, and I don't have to tell you about what fingerprint means, right?
As you move on, you see the pattern on the other pieces too. I like the 1st one though.
Dávid Miholcsa - Bonfire II.
The concept is good and nicely put on canvas or paper, but it's a bit too dark for my taste.
Regina Ionesu - Statue-Replica Tapestry
This was where I regretted the organizers didn't stick to the old rules. Digital art has its place, but not here. I personally don't go to art galleries and exhibitions to watch digital art, but I guess that's something I'll have to deal with in the future, one way or another.
Radu Florea - The Castle
Mixed media, I recognize parts of it, but not really my style.
Edvin Szilágyi - Spectrum Field
This would be my second favorite, after the Compromised Identity.
Mana Bucur - Order Amidst The Chaos
Interesting composition and new as well as I've never seen anything like it. The artist is not unknown, but shame on me, can't remember what I have seen from her.
After I left, was thinking that this was a rare occasion that I didn't like the majority of the works. Usually I find them really interesting and even if it's not really my style, I like the most of them, but not today. I'm not against new, on the contrary and I like most of the new trends, but today somehow was not the best.
Let's see what you think, how you see this new trend. Let me know in a comment.
