Hello, Holos & Lotus friends! It’s been a while since I’ve stopped by here. Today I’m sharing some personal reflections on a few experiences I had this week and how I started putting myself first.
I’d like to start by saying that choosing myself is an ongoing process—in the sense that I’ve always defined myself as someone who struggles to let go of both people and material possessions. And on this journey of prioritizing myself, I’m cutting some ties that aren’t good for me, even though it makes me sad to have to end them. I’m talking about people with whom I’ve developed some kind of affection, but I see that they aren’t returning the same feelings, and this indifference I’m receiving from them started to weigh on me, so I decided to burn my bridges—and take myself with them. It’s really been eye-opening, and there’s a certain sense of relief, but it’s still a painful process during which I’ve shed quite a few tears—though I’m feeling better now. At least I know I made the right decision.
I also feel a change in myself, because before I used to let this kind of behavior—which bothered me—slide without a second thought; I’d accept that the other person was no longer interested in hearing from me and let them drift away, but in the process I was left with a million questions and words stuck in my throat that I could never say—and that are still there to this day. I was never very confrontational, so I used to accept whatever I was given—but not anymore; I don’t want to be that person anymore. And I’m not being that way—if something bothers me, I say so. In fact, I told one of these people I was angry and explained why, and they acknowledged their mistake and apologized. Although they sounded sad and regretful, I didn’t see a clear sign that they wanted to do anything about what I said, so I decided to distance myself for my own good—but at least I expressed how they made me feel and didn’t bottle it up like I’ve done in the past. That made me feel somewhere between relieved and sad because it didn’t turn out the way I would have liked, but that’s another story.
I haven’t told the other person anything yet, and I’m weighing whether it’s worth it or not. They didn’t do anything to me, but at this point in my life, I’m not up for having people in my life who bring me nothing but uncertainty and do nothing to show me they’re on the same page as me. I’m tired of being the one who keeps the lines of communication open and cares about the other person when it seems like they don’t care at all. Let’s be honest: if someone isn’t making an effort to be in your life, it means they aren’t that interested in being there. So from now on, I’m going to give back exactly what I get. And if I get silence in return, that’s exactly what they’ll get. I’m not going to prop anything up anymore. I’m loyal to those who are loyal to me, and I’m grateful to have good, healthy relationships in my life—so I’m not going to worry anymore about those who aren’t.
It’s strange how certain people act—how they say they love you and that you’re important in their lives, but then don’t back it up with their actions, and their words are just blowing in the wind. So I choose to have in my life the people who are genuinely interested in being there for me, with whom I can have discussions and share different opinions, but with whom the affection is mutual and sincere. The kind of people who add to my life, not take away from it. As for the rest, they can go—I’m tired of empty gestures. Today, I choose to prioritize myself and seek my own peace, because I am my top priority.
Well, friends, that wraps up my little reflection on what’s happening to me right now. I hope you enjoyed it and found some of what I shared helpful. Remember that your energy is valuable.
