As I approach my fiftieth birthday in a few months I'm digging through hundreds of old poems, gathering them together to be published in book form later this year.

Each of the poems are like a time capsule. When I read them they bring me back to the exact moment they were written. What I was reminded of is there's been a whole lot of struggle but also an equal measure of joy. Sometimes I still can't believe I never gave up on this dream of being a writer but I'm so thankful I didn't.

As I'm putting this new book together two questions arise: 1.) How did I get this old?; and 2.) How did I get so lucky?

Damn, life passes so incredibly quickly. After the struggles of this past year I don't want to miss one more minute of life. Naturally, approaching half a century on this Earth also makes a person think more about what they wish to leave behind. One word comes to mind when I think about it...poetry.

IT WAS THEN

There you stand
with forgiveness
in your eyes
and a prayer
on your lips
giving thanks
to the tremendous
storm that
stranded you here.

At first you trembled,
then you cursed,
wishing for
a frictionless life...
but then it happened,
in the midst of the
worst of your struggles
you felt it,
a split second
of immortality.

It was then
you understood
the power you
held inside of you,
it was then
your eyes opened,
it was then
that you vowed
to never again
be lied to
or lulled to sleep,
it was then.

So I've decided to put this poetry manuscript together and get it off to the book designer before I do a deep dive into writing the first draft of the next novel, Asylum. Character notes, outlines, and ideas are all drawn up for Asylum so I thought this was a good place to take a pause.

The new novel will, without a doubt, be a sequel to Alarm Clock Dawn. I've figured out an unconventional way a way to tie the two stories together that, hopefully, you'll enjoy. I'll be sharing more about both of these new books as they develop. I hope you all are having a wonderful week!

Although I'm not blogging as much lately I do still log into Hive once a day to read and curate. After nearly five years of blogging nonstop I'm really enjoy taking that step back to enjoy reading other's blogs versus focusing just on creating content.

With Gratitude,

Eric Vance Walton

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.

These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you.
