There's nothing better to me than being immersed in a foreign city where you don't speak the language. I've picked up a little French from my trips to Montreal over the years. It's amazing how quickly the light bulb comes on when you get past the self-conscious barrier of trying to speak a new language. There really is something to linguistic relativity because when I'm in Quebec saying, "bon jour" and "bon après-midi" to the shop owners as I enter their door it's as though I see the world through a different lens.
