As you well know from being a self-published author yourself, the act of writing/publishing is like ushering one of your own children from the nest out into the void that is our crazy world. Aside from all the work, it takes loads of faith and optimism just to want to do it.

This book launch, more than any of the others, was met largely with silence. I was beginning to think maybe the world had grown beyond or perhaps no longer had the attention span for poetry—or maybe I was losing my edge as an author. At this point in my career, sales aren't the way I keep score anymore. The important part for me is people connect with the words on the page, really feel them.
