I was fifteen and the girl, Toni, was from another part of town but babysat for an aunt who lived in our neighborhood. I had just swapped my thick glasses for contacts at the beginning of that summer (1986) so I was riding high on the wave of newly found confidence. She was, obviously, much more experienced than me. It was exhilarating, disorienting, and probably the end of what would be considered "childhood". It was a drama-filled summer fling and we broke up when school started in September. After that dating began as did an endless quest to grow up.
