I remember the days when we would go to the bars, restaurants, and clubs and need a shower afterwards because we were infused with the smell of smoke. I don't miss those days at all. I can't even imagine being trapped on an overseas flight or in the workplace with smokers and this was once commonplace. I think if it's an open-air beer garden or pub patio there could be a special section for smokers and non-smokers.
Vaping is a huge issue here in America and many of the big tobacco companies are just pivoting to this. The vape "smoke" smells like candy or has no smell at all so it's less offensive but, by far, the most common thing we smell around here is cannabis. Our state (Minnesota) legalized recreational marijuana last year and it's literally everywhere. I, honestly, don't know how some people function and go about their day after smoking so much weed.
I think here in the US we won't see outright bans but they're just going to continue to tax the hell out of nicotine products, alcohol, cannabis, and eventually everything deemed "unhealthy". It's a win for the government because they get the tax revenue and the corporations because they can continue to sell their products.
