My wife and I have watched a few of those YouTubers' videos who challenge law enforcement during traffic stops. That takes guts these days. I'm appalled by how ignorant some police/state patrol officers are of the law and/or how they feel that they're above the law. Some of the cops get extremely violent when challenged, even if they're in the wrong. I've seen more than one case where the situation spirals out of control and the driver gets tased or assaulted.
I'm a middle aged white male who drives a Toyota Prius and I would probably get nervous if I was pulled over.
There's a new initiative here in Minneapolis where city council, organizations, and citizens are demanding that the city defund the police department. Public schools are ending their contracts with them for school security and there's a lot of conversations happening about how to drastically demilitarize and scale down the police force. There's also talk of making it a requirement to have a four year criminal justice degree to be a police officer. The stories coming out about how corrupt the Minneapolis police force is are sickening. We'll see if this all just vaporizes after the protests end. People tend to have short memories and attention spans these days.
