I have not much hope for us Germans. I think, we will die out eventually as a folk. We've lost our path, our culture, our confidence due to the circumstances you described here and through what else followed.
When I talk to friends, they are totally unaware of the happenings and still think that we are amongst the richest countries in the world. I cannot fathom how they manage to go with blind eyes through every day life and don't start to ask themselves questions.
I'm becoming more and more of a cynic, which is unfortunate. I'm getting tired of the eternal complaints I hear from friends, even family, and I've almost gotten into the habit of not disagreeing or arguing because it's almost hopeless to make them think.
People seem to benefit from settling into the victim role because it rains so much validation everywhere. Actually, according to my observation in everyday life and daily shopping, the foreigners who work here are by no means more committed and friendly in their dealings with customers and only the German is the one who doesn't feel like working and making the best of it, it seems. But perhaps I have become over-sensitive. I don't want to generalize.
I believe that there is no way to prevent us from heading towards the biggest difficulties we have faced in this country for decades. The political theater is almost unbearable. Well, this probably has to do with my pain in accepting reality as such. Giving in to hopes of improvement is what one should give up so that sorrow does not become a constant companion.
