It was dark, the moon shone brightly,
snow-covered the green meadow,
when a car flashed,
slowly round the corner.
People, sitting inside, standing
silently engrossed in conversation,
when a dead hare
skated on the sandbank.
And a young man with blond curls
with coal-black hair
sat on a green box,
painted red.
Next to him was an old crank,
barely sixteen years old,
holding a butter sandwich,
spread with lard.
