Hello to you,
I followed the thread here. From an authors perspective, I would argue that if you stand behind your content, you can submit to a contest anyway and if you break some of the guidelines, it still may be nevertheless being accepted as a submission to enter the contest. The nature of guidelines is that it they are not always absolute and depend on the interpretation of the readers/community operators. Some parts may be offensive and others may be not.
Speaking out in public, either through comments or through a fictional story always contains a certain risk. If no one is going for any risk, then we might ask ourselves, if we have not created a cancel culture, where the censor sits already in the head of an author. So, my advice would be: Don't ask for permission. Submit a story and if it's going to be dismissed, you have the choice to either live with it or to start a debate. Which also has its value.
Greetings.
